Last night (25/05/2017) Bushy Park Girls CC won a second match against boy’s league opposition in this their debut season in the MCA West league. Played in the glorious evening sunshine at Teddington Town CC it was a far cry from the chilly conditions braved earlier in May. On that occasion Teddington Town defended a strong total and Bushy Park Girls were 20 runs short in their reply. Yesterday Bushy Park Girls turned the tables on their neighbours to record a fine win and propel them up the Division 3 standings.
Bushy Park Girls captain Abigail Avery won the toss and chose to field. With the little and large show on the road, Erin Goodwin and Jessamy Low opened the bowling. It was Low who struck first, enticing a caught and bowled from the Teddington Town No.1 batsmen. Goodwin’s line improved throughout her spell and it wasn’t long before she clean bowled the TTCC No.3 (Low: 3 overs, 1 maiden, 6 runs, 1 wicket) (Goodwin E: 3 overs, 1 maiden, 7 runs, 1 wicket). Imogen Higgins is proving to be an all-rounder of some class and she bagged a wicket in the 9th over (2 overs, 4 runs, 1 wicket). With Paige Goodwin bowling two very tight overs it left Teddington Town CC on 29 runs after 10 overs.
Teddington Town pushed on in the second half of their innings, tripling their score in the process. Nerves didn’t affect Evie Mayhew in her debut match, bowling a good opening over. Phoebe Head’s unpredictable spell kept the batsmen on their toes and ultimately produced a wicket (2 overs, 9 runs, 1 wicket). Iris Saunders (1 over, 8 runs, 1 wicket) dismissed Teddington Town’s most destructive batsmen, teasing him into a slog that was caught by Head. The innings was concluded by Abigail Avery (3 overs, 1 maiden, 10 runs) and the bandaged Ruby Wilkinson who bravely overcame her wrist injuries.
Molly Bartlett was on good form behind the stumps but as Bushy Park Girls tired in the evening sun it was increasingly difficult for her to stem the flow of extras. Teddington Town CC finished on 89 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Kerrie-Ann Dcunha opened the batting for Bushy Park Girls but she got a peach of a delivery first ball. Imogen Higgins, her fellow opener, then went on to build a 47 run partnership with Phoebe Head who came in at No.3. When Higgins fell for 24 runs in the 10th over BPG had reached the 47 mark, on course to reach their target. With the powerful Abigail Avery joining Head at the crease the run rate increased. In tandem, Head and Avery (24 runs) were a glorious sight as the shadows lengthened across the park. Bushy Park Girls CC reached their target of 90 in the 15th over with Phoebe Head carrying her bat throughout the innings, finishing on a personal best of 36 Not Out.
Congratulations to Imogen Higgins and Erin Goodwin who have both taken 10+ wickets for Bushy Park Girls in 2017. I’m sure there will be more to come. BPG Stats are HERE
