A fledgling team of cricketers from Coombe Girls’ School made the long journey to Play-On in Whitechapel to contest the Chance to Shine indoor championships last month (15/02/2017). Playing against 3 teams from Clapham and Dagenham they started the day as outsiders but with the help from Bushy Park Girl Molly Bartlett their rise to glory won them the Chance to Shine indoor title in style.
Under the expert eye of manager Catherine Bartlett the girls won 5 of their 6 games to qualify for the final against Dagenham. With Molly keeping wicket and reproducing the form she displayed in the Middlesex finals in 2016 the result was never in doubt.
Congratulations to all the girls from Coombe Girls – Tanaya (captain), Molly (vice-captain), Elise, Eun Ha Choi, Holly, Yasmin, Paige and Milly.
So proud of these girls, especially because several were my students in Years 5 and 6. Hurrah for New Malden! Hurrah for Coombe Girls! Hurrah for Catherine! — from Mrs Day
