Bushy Park Girls brushed off the winter cobwebs with 2 losses and 2 wins in the Middlesex indoor championship at Whitechapel last month (21/01/2017). The team came together before the club’s winter nets programme had fully kicked in, yet they worked as a team to pull off some hard fought victories and improved as the day went on.
Bushy Park Girls got off to a slow start with a tentative 22 runs scored against Ealing CC in their first game. Grace Tasker bucked the trend by hitting a six and accumulated a tasty 12 runs in just one over of big hitting. Despite a run-out off Rosie Davis’ bowling their opponents cruised to a 38 run victory in their allotted 8 overs.
Bushy Park Girls bounced back with a buoyant win in their second game against Stoke Newington CC. Batting first the BPG opening pair of Davis and Claudie Dexter rattled up an impressive 24 runs in just 2 overs. BPG batted with aplomb throughout their whole innings, scoring a mighty 75 runs. The pressure took its toll on Stoke Newington and they fell 43 runs short.
The third match once again brought out the best in Bushy Park Girls and they posted a large total of 62 for their opponents Harrow Alliance CC to chase. The middle order pair of Grace Lyon and Beth Crabtree were the backbone of the batting performance with 17 runs. Harrow gleaned only 32 runs from the BPG bowling, the nail in their coffin was the death bowling of Erin Goodwin who hammered home the advantage with speed and accuracy.
The last game for Bushy Park Girls was a tight affair against North London CC. Our girls scored a decent 49 runs in their innings but it was the opposition who triumphed by just 2 runs. The bowling of Lexie Dobson (conceding 6 runs) and Ruby Oakley (conceding 2 runs) caught the interest of many of the supporters present and brought the match right down to the wire.
Congratulations to all the girls.
